About RLC Minnesota 2017-08-29T21:37:21+00:00

Purpose

The purpose of the Republican Liberty Caucus is to advance the principles of limited government, individual liberty and free markets within the Republican Party. It is a political membership organization that is independent of the Republican National Committee, but works within the party to achieve liberty.

Our goals are to promote caucus membership to activists and candidates who support the RLC’s agenda, identify and support limited government Republicans for political office, and guide the direction of the Republican Party to reflect this vision.

Many of our members actively serve in their local Republican Party organizations, and several of our members have been elected and re-elected to public office.

The Minnesota Chapter is a recognized affiliate of the Republican Party of Minnesota, which grants the Chapter representation at congressional conventions, state conventions, and the state central committee, as well as direct access to party leadership.

History

The Republican Liberty Caucus is a product of several organizations that were active in the 1980s, but the concept of developing libertarian principles within the GOP could be traced back to the 1964 Presidential campaign of Barry Goldwater. Although he labeled his position as “conservative,” he espoused the classical liberal principles that we promote today.

In 1990, the Libertarian Republican Organizing Committee, one of the precursor groups, met at a Young Republicans convention and agreed to form an independent national organization. Starting in Florida, the RLC has steadily grown over the years: it has members in every state, and is now chartered in 23 states, with an additional eight states engaged in the chartering process.

The Minnesota chapter was granted in 2003 and earned Affiliate status in December 2009.

The Liberty Compact

The RLCMN endorses candidates who support the Liberty Compact:

I pledge to the citizens of the State of Minnesota and to the American people, that as their elected representative I will work to: restore liberty, not restrict it; shrink government, not expand it; reduce taxes, not raise them; abolish programs, not create them; promote the freedom and independence of citizens, not the interference of government in their lives; and observe the limited, enumerated powers of our Constitution, not ignore them.

You’re the Future

Your membership helps the RLCMN fulfill its mission of promoted limited government, individual rights and free markets in the party, in St. Paul, and on main street.
